IELTS at a glance: Scoring and resources

Preparing for IELTS (International English Language Testing System) from scratch may sound a bit intimidating. But with a well-planned approach, resources, and practice, you too can get a good band score. So here goes a guide to the IELTS test, particularly for Bangladeshis who want to pursue their career or education overseas.

Understand the IELTS Exam Format.

IELTS has two versions:

  • IELTS Academic (for university admissions)
  • IELTS General Training (work/migration)

Both upgraded versions test four abilities:

1. Listening (30 minutes)

2. Reading (60 minutes)

3. Writing (60 minutes)

4. Speaking (11–14 minutes, live interview)

Overall time taken for the test: ~ 2 hours 45 minutes.

Scoring system

– Every section is scored between 0 and 9 (band score).

– The overall band score is an average of the four sections.

For most universities: 6.0 – 7.5, depends on the establishment
