Programme Background
SNV has been implementing urban water programmes in Bangladesh since 2014, focusing primarily on sanitation. Supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and DGIS, the programme engages with local authorities in city corporations and paurashavas to address sanitation challenges and strengthen sector development. The current project, funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, aims to improve sanitation, solid waste, and stormwater management for approximately 1.4 million people across 12 cities and towns, aligning with Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100 and SDGs 6, 11, and 13.
Internship Purpose
The intern will support the Smart Finance & Investment component, assisting the Public Finance Advisor in data collection, analysis, and stakeholder coordination related to municipal finance, investment, and urban service delivery.
Key Assignments
1. Financial Data Collection & Analysis
- Collect and clean 3–5 years of municipal financial data (revenue, expenditure, tariffs, etc.) related to WASH.
- Prepare asset inventory and estimate depreciation schedules for key urban infrastructure assets.
- Document consultations/interviews with city officials, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Draft initial visualisations, tables, and narratives for municipal financial health reports.
Duration: 4 months
Output: Municipal financial analysis report for 12 cities
2. Tariff and Service Affordability Analysis
- Collect data on tariff structures and user affordability of WASH services.
- Support preparation for stakeholder consultations and validation workshops.
Duration: 1 month
Output: Tariff and affordability analysis report for 12 cities
3. Investment Transaction Support
- Assist in asset lifespan and future investment needs analysis through Key Informant Interviews and stakeholder consultations.
- Map funding requirements for capital maintenance, service expansion, and innovations.
- Support logistical and content preparation for capacity-building events and workshops.
- Assist in scheduling city visits, workshops, and internal reviews.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business administration, or related field; final-year undergraduates who have completed academic examinations may apply.
- Strong quantitative, analytical, and financial modelling skills (MS Excel).
- Familiarity with financial statements, municipal budgeting, and data visualisation is an advantage.
- Proficiency in English and Bangla (reading, writing, speaking).
- Effective communication skills with diverse stakeholders.
- Flexible to travel to project cities and have access to a functional laptop.
Additional Information
- Working Hours: Full-time (minimum 40 hours/week)
- Remuneration: Attractive, based on experience and competencies. Travel will be arranged per SNV Bangladesh policy.
