Job Description
The Research Assistant/Research Associate will:

  • Assist the Director/Research Scientist in the planning, implementation, evaluation, and deployment of data-driven public health research projects.
  • Assist in research projects related to machine learning and deep learning, including model development, training, and validation.
  • Collect, curate, manage, and preprocess datasets (tabular, text, image, or other health-related data) and ensure data quality and documentation.
  • Analyse and interpret quantitative data using appropriate statistical and ML methods, and summarise findings clearly.
  • Contribute to writing scientific publications and technical reports.
  • Collaborate closely with team members (researchers, data scientists, and public health professionals) on ongoing and new research initiatives, including brainstorming and knowledge dissemination.

Requirements

Educational Qualifications

  • BSc or MSc in Computer Science & Engineering (or a closely related field).
  • Research and publication experience (conference/journal paper or thesis-based publication).

Technical Qualifications

Programming & Tools

  • Strong Python 3.x skills (clean, modular code).
  • Experience with Git and working in Linux and CLI environments.

Machine Learning / Deep Learning

  • Hands-on experience training supervised models (classification/regression) using libraries such as scikit-learn.
  • Practical experience building and training neural networks in PyTorch (or TensorFlow/Keras).
  • Understanding of computer vision workflows (e.g., image classification, feature extraction).
  • Understanding of NLP workflows (e.g., preprocessing, tokenisation, embeddings, text classification).
  • Interest or prior exposure to multimodal vision–text approaches.

Data Handling (Tabular, Text & Image)

  • Proficient with pandas and NumPy for loading, cleaning, merging CSV files, and performing basic feature engineering.
  • Experience preparing text datasets (cleaning, tokenisation, feature representation).
  • Experience loading and preprocessing image datasets using tools such as PIL, OpenCV, or torchvision.

Language Skills: Fluent in spoken and written English.

Timeframe: The initial contract will be for 1 year (the first three months considered a probationary period). The contract may be extended based on satisfactory performance.

Remuneration: Gross BDT 35,000–40,000 per month (negotiable based on position and experience), payable based on work progress evaluation.
