
Security & Political Adviser | The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. They take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. They are an independent and neutral organization, and their mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. They work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. They direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.
The Purpuse
The incumbent will advise the delegation on security dynamics & political developments. Additionally, s/he will develop, maintain and broaden a network of strategic relationships with relevant stakeholders to maintain the ICRC’s operations within the country and advise the delegation’s management on potential risks to the ICRC.
Responsibilities
- Supports management on political and security analysis by monitoring, analyzing & briefing on security, political, social & economic developments.
- Supports the identification, assessment, and mitigation of safety and security risks, regularly reviews and updates security rules, contingency plans and crisis management procedures.
- Develops and maintains a strong network of contacts with different stakeholders (i.e.: authorities, political bodies) to support the ICRC’s humanitarian objectives.
- Manages security systems and tools, including incident reporting, movement tracking, and monitoring mechanisms, ensuring timely incident reporting and proper documentation.
What are They Looking for
- Minimum bachelor’s degree with extensive expertise in analyzing and interpreting political, economic, social and security landscape of Bangladesh and the broader region.
- At least 4 years’ overall professional experience in similar fields in other international organizations or governmental structures.
- Prior experience in managing safety & security in international organizations, embassies or similar institutions.
- Strong ability to analyze complex situations and identify practical, realistic solutions.
- Expertise in report generation including different concept notes and minutes of meetings.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Fluent English, Bangla language proficiency and strong IT skills (usage of different online database, applications, ERPs).
- Ability to work autonomously with minimum supervision.
- Excellent proficiency over English and Bengali.
