Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will award education and merit scholarships for the academic year 2025–26 to underprivileged but talented students living in its jurisdiction. The information was confirmed in a DNCC notice published on Sunday (31 August).

The initiative is aimed at supporting students from disadvantaged families and encouraging bright learners to continue their studies up to higher secondary level.

According to DNCC, students from class one to class twelve will be eligible to apply. The scholarship programme is part of the city corporation’s annual social welfare initiatives, designed to reduce dropout rates and ensure that financial hardship does not block deserving students from accessing education.

To qualify, applicants must meet three basic conditions. They must be residents of areas under Dhaka North City Corporation, come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, and demonstrate merit in their academic records. The scholarship is not limited to a particular grade; both primary and secondary level students are covered, extending the opportunity up to class twelve.

Application forms will be available at DNCC’s Nagar Bhaban, all regional offices and on the corporation’s official website. The deadline for submission has been fixed for 30 September 2025.

Interested students are required to submit a completed application form along with several documents. These include one recently taken passport size colour photograph, attested copies of the previous class mark sheet, academic transcript or tabulation sheet. Students applying at class eleven level must attach the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination mark sheet or academic transcript.

For class twelve, additional requirements apply. Applicants must provide an attested copy of the tabulation sheet and the college year change examination mark sheet or transcript. A certificate issued by the head of the educational institution regarding the student’s merit and conduct is also mandatory. Furthermore, an income and occupation certificate of the father, mother or legal guardian, attested by the concerned ward councillor or authorised official, must be enclosed. These documents will help the authorities verify both the financial status and academic ability of the applicant before awarding the scholarship.

Completed applications can be submitted either at the relevant DNCC regional office or at the Chief Social Welfare and Slum Development Department, Nagar Bhaban, Dhaka North City Corporation, Plot 23–26, Road 46, Gulshan–2, Dhaka.

DNCC has encouraged students and parents to collect the necessary forms as early as possible and ensure proper documentation before submission. Officials said the corporation’s goal is to reach those who are both deserving and in genuine need. By extending the scholarship up to higher secondary level, DNCC hopes to cover a crucial stage in a student’s academic journey where many drop out due to financial pressure.

The corporation has also published details on its website, where applicants can find the official notice, requirements and form downloads.

Authorities expect a significant number of applications this year, given the rising cost of education and the high number of families in Dhaka struggling with limited income. They stressed that the scheme is meant to provide equal opportunity, ensuring that no talented student under DNCC’s jurisdiction has to abandon studies due to poverty.
