The Bonn International Fellowships invite excellent researchers from all disciplines to the University of Bonn for short stays (up to 12 days). Researchers from any field can apply. The fellowship includes a range of financial benefits as it will cover the cost of travel to/from Germany, allowance per day for 12 days, and material expenses for events.
Overview
- Offers fully funded short-term visits (up to 12 days) for accomplished academic researchers and faculty invited by University of Bonn hosts.
- Aims to encourage scholarly exchange, visibility and long-term collaboration.
Eligibility Criteria
- Open to postdoctoral researchers or experienced faculty affiliated with universities or research institutes.
- Applicants must be formally invited by a faculty member holding a doctorate at the University of Bonn.
- Preference is given to individuals with an established international academic reputation.
Funding Benefits
- Travel allowance to and from Germany.
- Daily stipend of €160 for each day (up to a total of 12 days, including arrival and departure).
- Material allowance up to €500 per approved visit proposal.

- Opportunities to present guest lectures, participate in workshops and build academic networks.
Application Timeline
- Call launch for 2026 fellows: 29 May 2025.
- Application deadline: 22 September 2025 (5 pm CET).
- Selected applicants notified by early December 2025.
- Fellowship period: 1 January – 31 December 2026.

Application Procedure
- A host scientist at Bonn must initiate and submit the application via the University’s electronic system.
- Application package must include:
- Completed online form (host and applicant details)
- Project description (up to six pages) and applicant’s consent letter
- Short academic CV (maximum two pages)
- Official invitation letter from the Bonn host
- Budget plan using Bonn’s Excel template
