University-Twente-Scholarship

The University of Twente (UT) invites applications for the University Twente Scholarship (UTS) for the 2026-2027 academic session.

This prestigious award is dedicated to excellent students from non-EU/EEA countries who demonstrate outstanding academic potential and wish to pursue a Master of Science (MSc) programme in the Netherlands.

Scholarship Overview and Financial Value

The UTS serves as compensation for study-related costs, providing recipients with the autonomy to manage their funds.

  • Award Value: Between €3,000 and €22,000 for one year.
  • Two-Year Programmes: Students enrolled in two-year programmes may receive an additional UTS amount for their second year, provided they meet progression requirements (an average grade of 7/10 and at least 50% of European Credits by the end of the first year’s third quartile).
  • Kipaji Scholarship: Applicants for the UTS may also be eligible for the additional Kipaji Scholarship. Interested candidates should indicate their interest in their application motivation.

Eligibility Criteria and Requirements

To be considered for the UTS, candidates must meet the following stringent academic and administrative standards:

  • Academic Standing: Applicants must belong to the top 5 to 10 percent of their graduating class at their home university.
  • Admission Status: Candidates must have already obtained a (provisional) academic admission letter for a qualifying UT Master’s programme starting in September 2026.
  • Identification: A valid UT student number is mandatory for the application.
  • English Language Proficiency: A minimum score of Academic IELTS 6.5 (or TOEFL iBT 90) is required, with a specific sub-score of 6.0 in Speaking (TOEFL iBT 20).
  • Exclusions: The scholarship is not available to Dutch/EU/EEA students, current UT graduates, pre-Master’s students, or those applying for programmes at the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC).

Application Timeline and Procedure

The application for the scholarship is a separate process from the application for course entry.

  • Application Window: 1 February 2026 to 1 May 2026 (16:00 CET).
  • Method: Once a conditional admission letter is received, students must apply via the official scholarship portal using their student number.
  • Visa Compliance: Applicants must be eligible to comply with the conditions for obtaining an entry visa for the Netherlands.

Important Notices for Applicants

Note: Admission to a Master’s programme does not guarantee a scholarship. As the assessment of academic admission can take up to 8 weeks, candidates are urged to apply for their chosen course well in advance of the 1 May deadline.
