Asif Akbar elected unopposed as BCB director

Renowned Bangladeshi singer Asif Akbar has been elected unopposed as a director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
The BCB Board of Directors election is scheduled for 6 October, with today (Wednesday) being the final day for withdrawal of candidacy. Until 12 noon, candidates had the chance to withdraw their nomination papers, and by that time 16 director candidates, including former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal, pulled out of the race.
From the Chattogram District Sports Association, Mir Helal Uddin withdrew his candidacy. This left only two valid contenders in the Chattogram Division—Asif Akbar, a councillor from Cumilla District Sports Association, and Ahsan Iqbal Chowdhury from the Chattogram Divisional Sports Association. Since there were two director positions available and no extra candidates, both were elected unopposed.
Initially, four nominations were submitted from the Chattogram Division. After scrutiny, the nomination of Chandpur’s Shawkat was cancelled, leaving three valid candidates. With one candidate withdrawing today, no voting is required in this division. In the past three terms, Akram Khan and A.J.M. Nasir Uddin served as directors from this division.
