Crowd chants ‘bhua’ as Shamim reacts to angry fan

Tensions ran high following Bangladesh’s 7-wicket defeat to the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday night (21 May), as a video circulating on social media captured a heated moment involving cricketer Shamim Hossain and a fan.

In the video circulating on social media, a visibly agitated spectator is seen hurling insults at the Bangladesh team as the players walked off the field.

Most of the players kept their heads down and made their way inside, avoiding confrontation. However, Shamim stopped, gestured at the heckler and appeared to ask him to come down from the stands.

This provoked louder chants of “bhua bhua” (fake, fake) from the crowd, prompting teammate Tanzim Hasan Sakib to return and escort Shamim back inside.

According to sources, while Shamim initially attempted to respond to the abuse, the situation did not escalate further. He eventually calmed down and entered the dressing room without incident.

Despite showing promise in domestic cricket, Shamim struggled with the bat during the series. Over three matches, he managed just 21 runs — dismissed for 6 in the first match, remaining unbeaten on 6 in the second, and scoring 9 before getting caught behind in the final game.

The left-handed batter, now under scrutiny for both performance and temperament, finds himself at the centre of fan criticism once again.
