PCB fines Pakistan players 50 lakh rupees after poor performance
Pakistan’s cricket team has faced criticism following a 61-run defeat to India in the 2026 T20 World Cup. The result continues a trend of underwhelming performances, as the team was eliminated in the group stage of the previous World Cup and has not secured a major title since winning the 2017 Champions Trophy, including the Asia Cup.
According to Express Tribune, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has imposed fines of 5 million Pakistani rupees on each member of the World Cup squad in response to the team’s overall performance. The decision was reportedly taken immediately after the loss to India.
The report further stated that players’ rewards and penalties will now be directly linked to their performances. Officials clarified that strong performances will be recognised with rewards, while substandard displays will incur sanctions.
Certain players were exempt from the fines. Sahibzada Farhan, the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 383 runs, broke the record for the most runs in a single T20 World Cup, surpassing Virat Kohli’s 319 runs in six matches in the 2014 edition. Fakhar Zaman scored 109 runs in two matches at a strike rate of 187, and Usman Tariq took 10 wickets across five games at an average of 14.10.
Among the rest of the squad, performances were inconsistent. Shadab Khan emerged as Pakistan’s second-highest run-scorer with 118 runs in six innings, while Shaheen Shah Afridi claimed eight wickets, the second-most in the team.
