126 foreign students get admission in Bangladeshi medical and dental colleges

A total of 126 foreign students have been offered admission in Bangladesh’s government medical and dental colleges for the 2024–25 academic year, according to a notice published by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday (18 May).

The students have been selected for MBBS and BDS programmes under SAARC and non-SAARC quotas, based on merit and their preferences, said the notice from the ministry’s Medical Education-1 wing.

Under the SAARC quota for MBBS, India leads the list with 22 students, followed by Pakistan with 21, Nepal with 19, Bhutan with 20, and Sri Lanka with 12 students. For BDS, two students each from Pakistan, Nepal, and Bhutan have secured admission under the same quota.

In the non-SAARC category, 15 students from Palestine, 7 from Malaysia, 1 each from the United States and Canada have been allotted seats in MBBS courses. Additionally, two Malaysian students have received placements in BDS programmes. In total, 26 students have secured admission under the non-SAARC quota.

The notice further states that all students must complete the admission process by 15 June. The selected candidates have been instructed to proceed through their respective embassies or diplomatic missions to complete the required formalities.
