Jahangirnagar University has suspended nine teachers and expelled 289 Chhatra League activists for their involvement in attacks on students during a July anti-discrimination movement. The university syndicate’s decision followed an investigation into the incidents.
The suspended teachers were accused of abetting Chhatra League and police attacks. Expelled students faced tiered punishments: certificate suspension, result suspension, or temporary expulsion, depending on their student status. Former Vice-Chancellor and Registrar, now retired, will have their pension benefits cancelled.
The investigation committee, formed after attacks on students at halls and administrative buildings in July, submitted its findings, leading to these disciplinary actions. The Vice-Chancellor confirmed the suspensions and expulsions, citing evidence of teacher and student involvement in the violence.
