Bangladesh has dropped to 134th out of 147 countries in the World Happiness Report 2025, slipping from last year’s rank of 129th among 143 nations.
The annual report, released today, names Finland as the world’s happiest country, while Afghanistan remains the least happy, followed by Sierra Leone, Lebanon, Malawi, and Zimbabwe. In South Asia, India, Pakistan, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka ranked 118th, 109th, 126th, and 133rd, respectively, with Nepal performing better at 92nd.
The report highlights the world’s 20 happiest nations, with Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, and the Netherlands leading the list. Costa Rica is the only non-European country in the top five.
Based on Gallup World Poll data from 2022-2024, the rankings consider six key factors: GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom, generosity, and perceptions of corruption. The study is a collaborative effort by Gallup, the Oxford Wellbeing Research Centre, the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, and an expert editorial board.
