Australia will now process visa applications for Bangladeshi nationals directly from its High Commission in Dhaka, as confirmed by Australian Minister for Home Affairs Tony Burke during a phone conversation with Bangladesh’s Adviser for Home Affairs, Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, on Thursday.
The announcement was made during a meeting of the Advisory Council at the Chief Adviser’s Office, where the Home Affairs Adviser informed the council that the decision would take immediate effect.
This move follows a request made by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus during Minister Burke’s visit to Bangladesh in October last year.
Previously, Australian visas for Bangladeshi applicants were processed through New Delhi.
