The immediate trigger for the violence could not be confirmed.
A clash erupted between two groups of students at a hall of Dhaka Polytechnic Institute in the capital’s Tejgaon Industrial Area, leaving several injured.
The violence began around 12:30am today (3 March) at Latif Hall of the institute, where leaders and activists of Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir were reportedly involved.
As of 1:15am, when this report was filed, the clash was still ongoing. The immediate trigger for the violence could not be confirmed.
Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge of Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station Md Mahmudur Rahman told The Business Standard that police were stationed outside the hall but had not entered the premises.
“We are outside the hall. But we cannot enter without permission from the institution’s authorities,” he said.
“The students are chanting slogans inside. We are trying to speak with teachers and students,” he added.
He said at least one student had been injured and taken to a nearby government hospital. Several others may also have been hurt, though the exact number could not be confirmed.
When asked about those involved, the OC said the names of Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir were being mentioned. “But since we have not been able to enter, we cannot confirm it. No one was able to specify the reason behind the clash either,” he said.
