Comilla University admission test: Wrong question papers in 3 rooms, convener removed

In an unexpected development during Comilla University’s undergraduate admission test for the 2024–25 academic year, the wrong set of question papers was distributed to candidates in three exam rooms under the ‘C’ unit (Faculty of Business Studies). The incident caused a delay of around 40 minutes for over 100 students, prompting the university administration to temporarily relieve the exam’s convener, Professor Mohammad Ahsan Ullah, from his duties.

The test, held on Saturday morning (19 April), included candidates from business, science, and humanities backgrounds. Although separate question sets were prepared for each group, candidates in three rooms designated for humanities students who had switched from other streams were mistakenly handed the business studies paper. Realising the error mid-way, invigilators issued the correct papers and allowed the affected students the full duration to complete their exams.

Following the incident, Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Haydar Ali visited the affected rooms and instructed officials to exercise greater caution. He confirmed that no similar complaints had arisen from other centres and assured that remedial measures had been taken promptly to prevent academic loss for the students.

In light of the error, the university has appointed Professor Mohammad Belal Uddin of the Faculty of Business Studies as the new convener for the C unit. He will oversee the publication of results and related administrative responsibilities.

The admission test saw a turnout of 7,646 students out of 9,952 applicants under the C unit, marking a participation rate of 76.83%. Across all three units—A, B, and C—a total of 66,402 applications were received against 1,030 available seats, making the competition ratio approximately 64 students per seat.

The university has issued a show-cause notice to Professor Ahsan Ullah, asking for a formal explanation within five working days.
