Deep sleep sparks rescue operation in Mymensingh boarding house
A 19-year-old college student was rescued on Tuesday after he unintentionally spent roughly 12 hours trapped inside his boarding room in Mymensingh’s Sankipara area.
The young man had fallen into a deep sleep and did not respond to repeated calls from friends and neighbours, according to local authorities.
According to Prothom Alo, the incident occurred on Monday afternoon at around 4 p.m., when his roommates left the shared mess to attend to other activities, leaving the student inside. By early Tuesday morning, companions who returned found that despite knocking and calling loudly, there was no answer at the door.
As concern grew among neighbours, a crowd formed outside the locked room. Police were alerted and arrived on the scene but were also unable to elicit a response from inside. Fire Service personnel were then called in to assist.
Members of the fire service, along with police, eventually broke down the door and discovered the student asleep inside. He was safely brought out of the room and checked over, with officials confirming he was in good health.
Officials believe the prolonged silence was due to the student having stayed awake throughout the previous night, causing him to fall into a very heavy sleep and fail to hear any attempts to wake him.
