DIFE announces journalism award for national occupational health and safety day

The Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, has announced a journalism award to recognise exceptional reporting on workplace safety and workers’ rights. Organised by the Directorate of Factories and Establishments Inspection, this initiative aims to highlight the crucial role of journalism in raising awareness about occupational health and safety issues. The award will be presented as part of the observance of National Occupational Health and Safety Day on 28 April 2025.

Eligibility and Entry Requirements
Journalists working in print, electronic, and online media are encouraged to participate. Submitted reports must focus on occupational health, safety, and workers’ rights, shedding light on issues such as workplace hazards, labour rights, and industrial safety regulations. Reports must have been published or broadcast between 1 January 2024 and 10 April 2025 to be considered for the award.

Each submission must be accompanied by a copy of the published article or broadcast recording, along with relevant supporting documents. Digital submissions should be made via Google Drive or email, following the specific guidelines available on the Directorate’s official website. Hard copy submissions will also be accepted.

All entries must be submitted by 10 April 2025. Any submission received after this date will not be considered. Journalists are encouraged to ensure their entries meet all necessary criteria before submission.

Awards and Recognition
The winners will be announced on 25 April 2025, ahead of National Occupational Health and Safety Day. The award recipients will be recognised at a formal ceremony on 28 April 2025, where they will receive a monetary prize, a crest, and a certificate of recognition for their contribution to safety journalism.

The first-place winner will receive BDT 25,000, while the second and third-place winners will receive BDT 20,000 and BDT 10,000, respectively. The award aims to encourage in-depth reporting on labour conditions and workplace safety across Bangladesh.
