DIU expels faculty member over controversy about comments on ‘Global Strike for Gaza’

Tahmina Rahman, a faculty member at Daffodil International University (DIU), has been expelled following controversial remarks she made regarding the ‘Global Strike for Gaza’ movement. The decision was confirmed via an email to its students by the university’s Office of Public Relations.

The expulsion comes at a time of heightened global sensitivity surrounding the Gaza conflict and the international solidarity movements it has inspired.

Previously, the expelled lecturer at Daffodil International University (DIU) has drawn widespread criticism after a WhatsApp message, allegedly sent by her, discouraged students from joining the global solidarity strike for Gaza.

Tahmina Rahman, from the Journalism, Media and Communication department, warned students of being marked absent twice if they skipped class, referring to the strike as a “bullsh!t excuse”.

The message quickly spread across social media, prompting backlash from student groups like Life on DIU, which accused her of showing disregard for a pressing humanitarian issue.

The incident has sparked fresh debate over academic responsibility, student rights, and the role of campuses in global political conversations.
