Former Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique passes away

Former Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique, has passed away. He died tonight (13 March) at 10:45pm while undergoing treatment at BIRDEM Hospital in Dhaka following a stroke and brain haemorrhage.

Professor Siddique had been on life support for the past few days. He was initially admitted to Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital under the care of neurosurgeon Professor Nazrul Islam after collapsing at Dhaka Club on 6 March. He was later transferred to the hospital’s neuro ICU.

A renowned academic, Professor Siddique was formerly the chairman of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism. He was appointed as Dhaka University’s 27th Vice-Chancellor in 2009 and, after completing his tenure in 2017, returned to the department as a professor.
