Govt to introduce 400 electric buses in Dhaka

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Economic Affairs, Salehuddin Ahmed, announced that 400 electric buses will be introduced in Dhaka’s transport system. He also said the government is formulating a policy to regulate electric three-wheelers to ensure order and safety.
He made the announcement during his budget speech for the 2025–26 fiscal year on Monday (2 June).With support from the Asian Development Bank, the Highway Masterplan 2040 is nearing completion. The government is revising laws and policies to make road transport more sustainable, safe, and environmentally friendly.Plans are also underway to replace the 2012 law with a new ordinance to establish the Bangladesh Urban Transport Authority. He further emphasised major rail upgrades under the 30-year masterplan, including double tracks and electric traction.
