Pink moon to shine over Bangladesh skies on 2 April
Skywatchers in Bangladesh will be able to witness April’s full moon, popularly known as the Pink Moon, on April 2 at 8:11 pm, when it reaches peak illumination over Dhaka.
Despite its colourful name, the Pink Moon does not appear pink. The term comes from early spring wildflowers that bloom in parts of North America around this time of year, rather than the Moon’s actual colour.
The April full moon marks an important point in the lunar calendar and is traditionally associated with the arrival of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. It is also known by other seasonal names in different cultures, including the Paschal Moon, as it helps determine the date of Easter.
The Moon will appear full to the naked eye throughout the night and will look nearly complete on the evenings before and after April 2 as well. For the best viewing experience, observers are advised to look toward the eastern sky shortly after sunset, when the Moon rises low on the horizon and often appears larger and warmer in colour due to atmospheric effects.
No special equipment is required to enjoy the sight, though binoculars or small telescopes can enhance surface details such as craters and shadows.
Clear skies permitting, the Pink Moon is expected to be one of the most visually striking celestial events of the month, offering a bright and memorable view for observers across the country.
