Professor Dr. A. S. M. A. Haseeb, Dean of the Postgraduate Studies Faculty at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, has been appointed as the founding Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka Central University.
The appointment was confirmed in an official notification issued on Sunday (15 February) signed by Md Shah Alam Siraj, Assistant Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of Education.
According to the gazette, the appointment has been made under Section 11(1) of the Dhaka Central University Ordinance, 2026.
Under the terms of the appointment, Professor Hasib will serve a four-year term starting from the date he assumes office. Until formally taking charge as Vice-Chancellor, he will continue to receive the salary and allowances equivalent to his substantive position. He will also be entitled to other benefits associated with the office in accordance with existing regulations.
As the chief executive officer of the university, he is required to reside on campus and carry out his responsibilities on a full-time basis.
The notification further states that the Honourable President, who serves as Chancellor, retains the authority to revoke the appointment at any time if deemed necessary.
Stakeholders have expressed optimism that, under his leadership, Dhaka Central University’s academic, research and administrative functions will develop in a dynamic and progressive manner.
