RU students pause 'March for Our Rights', demand written commitments

Students at Rajshahi University have temporarily paused their “March For Our Rights” movement but insist they won’t back down without written commitments from the administration.
In a meeting held yesterday (29 June), student leaders presented their 9-point demand, which they’ve been pushing since 25 May. These include – 1. full residential access, 2. fair exam evaluations, 3. 24/7 campus security, 4. improved medical facilities, 5. digitised admin services, 6. better hall dining, 7. smoother academic coordination, 8. immediate activation of the TSSC, and 9. an official statement on RUCSU revival.
The university responded with verbal assurances on four points. Roll-free evaluation will begin from 2024–25, while new security measures—including CCTV cameras and dorm safety—are set to start from 1 October 2025. Talks on digitisation and RUCSU elections were also welcomed in principle.
However, students say they won’t be satisfied until a detailed, time-bound plan is provided in writing. One core issue remains unresolved: many students still don’t have hall seats, affecting their safety and academic life.
The movement may resume if written action plans are not shared soon.
