In Chandpur, a seventh-grade student has submitted an application to the headteacher, alleging that her family is trying to marry her off against her will. The teacher immediately informed the Upazila Education Office and the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) about the matter.

The brave girl’s name is Ruhi Akter (13). She is a seventh-grade student at Karaitali High School in Faridganj Upazila. Her home is in the Gazi Bari of Karaitali village in the same upazila. Her father, Abdur Rashid, is an expatriate, and her mother, Sumi Begum, is a housewife.

On Tuesday (29 July), Ruhi submitted the written application to Headteacher Pankaj Sharma. In the application, she stated that she was born on 18 June 2012. She is still studying, but her family is trying to force her into marriage, which she does not agree to. Therefore, she seeks the help of the headteacher.

Headteacher Pankaj Sharma said, “Upon receiving the application, I immediately informed the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and the education officer.”

Officer-in-Charge of Faridganj Police Station, Mohammad Shah Alam, said, “We are aware of the matter. In cases of child marriage, the UNO conducts mobile court operations, and we provide administrative support.”
