Students who are now controlling the traffic will be offered certificates, which would be seriously evaluated during job recruitments and add value to their education purpose, said Brigadier General (Retd) M Sakhawat Hossain, the Ministry of Home Affairs adviser of the interim.
While talking to media today to address the issue of police being out of their duty for a while, he praised the students who are now controlling the traffic.
As the IGP of police and other security personnel stood beside him, he told them to offer those brave students certificates which would be seriously evaluated during job recruitments and add value to their education purpose.
M Sakhawat Hossain said, “I would request our IGP to consider issuing certificates to the students who have sincerely contributed to this effort. These certificates should be credited to them and recognised during higher education and job applications. The students are using their own money to clean the city and beautify the walls.”
Sakhawat Hossain further commented, “The students are investing their own labour and money into this initiative. If this were a government project, it would have cost Tk400–500 crore or even Tk1,000 crore. This is an exemplary initiative for any country.”
Under pressure from the student and public movements, Sheikh Hasina resigned from the position of prime minister and left the country on 5 August. After her departure, several attacks on police officers occurred in various places. As a result, from that day, police officers began to abstain from work. In the absence of police, there was no mechanism to control traffic on the roads. In this situation, students in Dhaka and other parts of the country took to the streets to manage traffic. In addition, they are erasing old graffiti from walls and creating new artwork.
