Tencent, a global leader in internet and technology, is proud to announce the successful hosting of the seminar “Maximising the Potential of the Gaming Industry in Bangladesh” at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Dhaka.
The event brought together key stakeholders from the government, industry, academia, and gaming communities to explore the immense potential of the gaming sector in driving economic growth, creating employment opportunities, and fostering innovation in Bangladesh.
Discussions at the seminar highlighted the rapid growth of the $200 billion global gaming industry, surpassing the music and film industries combined. With Bangladesh emerging as one of the fastest-growing economies in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, the gaming industry presents a unique opportunity to diversify the country’s digital economy and contribute significantly to its GDP.
Yee Ler Lau, Head of Public Affairs, APAC at Tencent, emphasised the gaming industry’s transformative potential, stating, “The gaming industry goes beyond entertainment; it is a powerful economic engine that creates jobs, drives technological innovation, and fosters global connectivity. The event featured insightful presentations and panel discussions on various aspects of the gaming and digital ecosystem, including the current state of the gaming industry in Bangladesh, the role of esports, the need for supportive policy frameworks, and the importance of investing in technical infrastructure and human resources. Panelists included representatives from the government, gaming startups, esports teams, academia, and the telecom industry, who emphasised the need for a coordinated approach to harness the gaming industry’s full potential.
