Fifteen-year-old Husam Al-Attar, displaced by Israeli aggression, has tackled the power crisis in his refugee camp by generating electricity using wind energy. His innovation not only lights up his own tent but also supplies power to others, earning him the nickname “Newton of Gaza.”
Living in a refugee camp near the Rafah border, Husam saw the extreme electricity shortage and took action. He installed two fans on a nearby rooftop, connecting them with old electrical wires to light bulbs and a switchboard. Despite failing twice, his determination led him to success on the third attempt.
Inspired by his creativity, people compare him to Sir Isaac Newton. Husam himself says, “Newton discovered gravity by observing an apple fall. I found a way to produce electricity to overcome darkness and crisis.”
His story is a testament to resilience and ingenuity, proving that even in hardship, innovation can thrive.
