The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a traffic advisory for today (5 August), amid day-long cultural events and a special drone show at Manik Miah Avenue to mark “July Mass Uprising Day.”

The programmes, initiated by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, will begin at 11am and continue until midnight.

To prevent traffic congestion, DMP urges the public to avoid the National Parliament area and adjacent roads near Manik Miah Avenue throughout the day and use alternative routes.

1. Aarong crossing (West end of Manik Miah Avenue):

• Northbound traffic via Mirpur Road or from Mohammadpur through Asad Gate towards Khejurbagan/Farmgate must continue straight via the eastern end of Dhanmondi-27 instead of turning left at Aarong Crossing.
• Southbound traffic from Science Lab Crossing towards Khejurbagan/Farmgate must not turn right at Aarong Crossing. Instead, they should continue north, take a right at Ganabhaban Crossing, and proceed via Lake Road → Bijoy Sarani Crossing.

2. Khejurbagan Crossing (East end of Manik Miah Avenue)
   • Vehicles from the Elevated Expressway via Indira Road heading to Dhanmondi must not enter Manik Miah Avenue. Instead, they should turn right at Khejurbagan → continue via Lake Road → left at Ganabhaban Crossing → Mirpur Road to reach Dhanmondi.
   • Drivers are encouraged to avoid Khejurbagan entirely and use the FDC (Hatirjheel) exit ramp instead of the Farmgate ramp to travel toward Dhanmondi/Mohammadpur.
3. Farmgate crossing
   • Vehicles heading from Farmgate towards Khejurbagan/Manik Miah Avenue/Mirpur should avoid turning left and instead continue straight to Bijoy Sarani → left to Lake Road.
4. Ganabhaban crossing
   • Vehicles coming via Mirpur Road from the north towards Farmgate/Sonargaon must turn left at Ganabhaban Crossing → follow Lake Road → Urojahaj Crossing → right at Bijoy Sarani → head toward Farmgate.
   • Similarly, traffic from Mohammadpur via Asad Gate toward Khejurbagan/Farmgate should avoid turning right at Asad Gate and instead turn left → then right at Ganabhaban Crossing → via Lake Road → Urojahaj Crossing → Bijoy Sarani.
5. Syed Mahbub Morshed Road (Agargaon to Shishu Mela)
   • All vehicles intending to use Manik Miah Avenue are requested to travel via Syed Mahbub Morshed Road from Agargaon to Shishu Mela during the restricted period.

Citizens are requested to follow traffic instructions and cooperate with police officials to ensure smooth and safe travel across the city.

Vehicles (private or rented) accompanying attendees of the event are requested to park at the Old Trade Fair Ground in Agargaon.

The day’s events include performances by various artist groups from late morning to the afternoon, a commemoration event titled “Celebration of the Fall of Fascists” in the early afternoon, a recital of the historic July Declaration in the evening, a special drone show scheduled for 7:30pm, and a performance by the popular band Artcell later in the evening. Large public gatherings are expected in and around Manik Miah Avenue and the National Parliament premises. As a result, traffic movement on Manik Miah Avenue—from Khejurbagan Crossing to its western end—will remain restricted throughout the event duration.
