For nearly two decades, Basic Ali has been a beloved part of Bangladeshi humour, bringing laughter, life lessons, and relatable satire to readers across the country.

Created by Sharier Khan, the comic first appeared in Prothom Alo in November 2006 and later moved to The Business Standard in January 2020, continuing its run to this day.

Reflecting on his journey, Sharier Khan shared, “Since I was very young, I always wanted to make a comic strip. At a certain point, Prothom Alo gave me that opportunity.

“I really enjoy making this. I will continue making it as long as I enjoy doing the craft.”

He added, “With this comic, I enjoy the fact that I get to make people smile, because the world is a very difficult place. This comic is my contribution to the people living in this very difficult country.”

Over the years, Basic Ali has captured the hearts of readers with the witty and relatable adventures of Ali and his family.

The series has become more than just a comic; it is a reflection of everyday life, humour, and hope, reminding readers of the simple joys and struggles that unite us all.

In December 2024, a new milestone was added to the franchise with the release of a graphic novel, “Basic Ali Superhero Part 1”, based on the comic strip at the 2025 Boi Mela.

Today, as Basic Ali celebrates 19 years, it stands as a cherished symbol of Bangladeshi storytelling reminding everyone that even in a difficult world, a good laugh can go a long way.
