Disney’s ‘Zootopia 2’ dominated the Thanksgiving box office, taking an impressive $156 million over five days, including $96.8 million across the traditional weekend. It now stands as the second-biggest Thanksgiving debut in history, trailing only ‘Moana 2’.

Internationally, the sequel proved even more formidable, earning $400 million, with a record-breaking $272 million in China, bringing its global opening to a massive $556 million. Disney executives credit strong reviews, family demand and the franchise’s growing popularity, particularly in Asia.

Meanwhile, Universal’s ‘Wicked: For Good’ added a glittering $93 million in its second weekend, though it’s not holding as strongly as last year’s Wicked. Still, it has amassed $270.4 million domestically and $393.3 million worldwide.

Despite a healthy overall turnout of $293 million across all titles, this year’s Thanksgiving box office fell well short of 2024’s record haul. Analysts say the strong holiday frame sets the stage for a crucial, franchise-heavy December.
