Meta’s microblogging platform Threads has surpassed 400 million monthly active users, Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced yesterday (12 August). That indicates a steady growth from over 350 million users in late April as Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg last disclosed user figures.

Threads’ closest rival, X (formerly Twitter), still leads with over 600 million monthly active users, according to past statements by its former CEO Linda Yaccarino, TechCrunch reported.

Citing data from analytics firm Similarweb, TechCrunch said Threads is gaining ground on mobile. In June 2025, its iOS and Android apps recorded 115.1 million daily active users — up 127.8 percent from last year — while X saw 132 million, a year-on-year drop of 15.2 percent.

On desktop, however, X maintains a wide lead, drawing 145.8 million average daily visits globally in June, compared to Threads’ 6.9 million.

Launched in July 2023, Threads’ rapid expansion comes on the back of new features rolled out over the past year, including direct messaging, fediverse integration, custom feeds, and AI tools.
