On World Teachers’ Day 2025, we honour not only teachers in classrooms but also everyone supporting each lesson, achievement, and student. This year’s theme, “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession,” encourages us to reevaluate how we approach education.

Teaching is often seen as a solo effort one teacher, one classroom, one person making a difference. However, in reality, excellent teaching occurs when people share ideas, mentor one another, plan collaboratively, and engage the community.

In Bangladesh and beyond, educators are increasingly co-designing curricula, co-teaching modules, and co-solving challenges. These challenges encompass a range of issues, from digital literacy to inclusive pedagogy. Collaboration isn’t just a buzzword; it’s the backbone of modern education.

In Dhaka, teacher learning circles and cross-school workshops are becoming more common. Teachers use WhatsApp to share lesson plans and other educational materials. They hold webinars together and even write research as a team. These small changes reflect a global shift toward collaboration rather than competition.
As one secondary school teacher in Mirpur shared, “When we plan together, we teach better. My students feel the difference and so do I.”

Let’s celebrate teachers as collaborators, co-creators, and change-makers. Whether you’re a parent, policymaker, or student: support professional learning communities by joining or funding them, advocate for dedicated time and resources for teacher collaboration in your area, and urge adoption of policies that build trust among educators. Take these actions today—your commitment will help turn collaboration in education into true transformation.
Because when teachers collaborate, society thrives.
