Reads to get lost in: 5 book recommendations which might get you into reading!

Finishing school, college, starting a career, finding what you really want, making new friends, even moving to new cities- a lot happens in your 20s!

Feeling lost and unprepared might be the most normal thing to feel at this time. Well, being in my early 20s I can tell, this is my time to welcome new beginnings, get out of my comfort zone and learn when to say “Yes or No”!

But this feeling of being an adult is also discomforting and scary! And, as a reader, I am not only riding my own emotional rollercoaster, but also on board with the characters too!

Honestly, I love it! It’s just like slipping into someone else’s life for a while, figuring things out through their stories.

Okay, so if you want to do the same, I have 5 book recommendations for you! These stories might not feature the person next door, but trust me, they will reflect your journey of navigating life in more ways than one!!!

  1. Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin:

Sam and Sadie meet at a hospital gaming room bonding over their love for video games. Fast forward a decade later their paths crossed again or maybe it was destiny, and guess what! This time they started a gaming company together. This book is about friendship, love, and self-discovery. Not just any typical kind of romance. I love how well written it was. It felt like I was watching a movie. It made me feel deliciously achy and thus, I was possessed by the urge to recommend.

  1. Days at Morisaki bookshop & the sequel More Days at Morisaki Bookshop by Satoshi Yagisawa:

This book literally feels like a warm hug. Very short, subtle and will make you question how things in life can unfold when we take charge of our life. Set in Tokyo and revolves around the life of Takako where she works at a second hand bookstore when she was at her lowest. The idea of working at a bookstore always fascinated me but for Takako it was different in the beginning. This book is short and best for anyone who wants to start reading! I finished this book in one sitting. Also, one good thing is that the sequel has just come in and I loved that too!

  1. Ghosts by Dolly Alderton:

Nina has just arrived in her thirties; everything just seems perfect except for her love life. So, things unfolded as the universe said yes to her and she meets Max, who promises to marry her until he disappears, ghosting her out of the blue. But he ghosts her all of a sudden! To find out why you need to pick up the book, it’s no more than 320 pages and you will be able to devour it in a breeze. It’s a realistic story of someone who’s trying to figure out what and why through her journey when everything seems right but still something is not.

  1. Five Tuesdays in Winter by Lily King:

It’s a short story collection, I love her writing so much. There is such a simplicity to the prose, yet it feels like every sentence is purposeful, which makes it more meaningful. These stories are heartfelt, insightful and might make you cry as well.

  1. Almond by Sohn Won-Pyung:

This book is about a guy who was born with Alexithymia which means he has trouble experiencing, identifying and expressing emotions. He lived with his mother and grandmother, who cared deeply for him and attempted to teach him how to interpret the words and actions of people so he can stay out of trouble. This book is sweet but not happy and I love how each section sets up a new idea and a new mood of the story.
