Bangladeshi scientist helps unveil a 13-billion-year-old galaxy formation

Dr Lamiya Ashraf Mowla, a Bangladeshi scientist from Wellesley College, has co-led a groundbreaking discovery of a galaxy, aptly named the Firefly Sparkle, which reveals how galaxies like our Milky Way were formed in the early Universe.

This discovery was made possible through NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), reports the BBC and Nature.

The galaxy, located over 13 billion light-years away, consists of ten vividly coloured star clusters resembling twinkling Christmas lights. Dr Mowla described the finding as “watching a galaxy being formed brick by brick,” offering unprecedented insights into the Universe’s infancy, only 600 million years after the Big Bang.

Dr Mowla’s brilliant feat highlights the growing contributions of Bangladeshi scientists to global space exploration and inspires a new generation to reach for the stars.
