Job Context

WAVE Foundation is a civil society organization established in 1990, has been implementing multifaceted activities for the socio economic development of the poor and marginalized as well as the establishment of universal human rights and good governance. Besides, the organization is conducting issue based policy advocacy and campaigns. WAVE is driven by its motto ‘Together for Better Life’ towards the vision of establishing ‘A just and Prosperous society’. WAVE has organized its activities into 6 programs: 1) Poverty Eradication and Livelihood Development 2) Community Financing and Entrepreneurship Development 3) Agri-Food System Transformation 4) Governance, Rights and Justice 5) Social Development and Youth Empowerment 6) Climate Justice and Renewable Energy Promotion. WAVE Foundation is going to implement a sub-project titled ‘Promotion of Value Added Fruits for Sustainable Growth and Instituting RECP Practices’ as a part of the ‘Sustainable Microenterprise and Resilient Transformation (SMART)’ project. This sub-project aims to increase resource-efficient and resilient green growth of microenterprises (MEs) under High value crops (Fruits) sub-sector. The project is jointly financed by the World Bank, Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF), and WAVE Foundation. Sub Project Objective are- to adopt resource efficient, cleaner production and good agricultural practices (GAP), to adopt climate resilient technologies; to promote processing and marketing of fruits, to promote circular economy and to increase technical knowledge and capacity of the MEs. For implementing the project in the sun-project working area of Chuadanga and Memherpur WAVE Foundation is seeking qualified candidate for the position of the ‘Technical Officer (High value crops-Fruits)’ in it’s Project Management Unit (PMU) of this project.

Key Responsibilities: The ‘Technical Officer (High value crops-Fruits)’ will work under the direct supervision of the Project Manager and will undertake the following duties and responsibilities, which are essential but not limited to:

  • Assist the Project Manager in planning, monitoring, and supervising the implementation of project activities.
  • Assist to identify potential microenterprises (MEs), select appropriate climate-resilient and resource-efficient cleaner production (RECP) practices for MEs and motivate them to adopt those practices.
  • Provide technical support to MEs at cluster level.
  • Select MEs for demonstration, set-up demonstration, and follow-up the MEs.
  • Prepare training manuals, leaflets, case stories of the sub-project.
  • Impart training on new/improved climate-resilient, resource-efficient and cleaner production aquaculture/livestock/Agriculture/light-engineering/textile/Food processing technologies, GAP, climate change vulnerability, etc.
  • Assist in organizing field days, exposure visits, meetings, workshops, seminars, fairs, Environment Club meetings, etc.
  • Explore circular economy, value-added product diversification, and new market potentiality.
  • Assist to produce monthly, quarterly, and annual progress report as per the requirement of the management.
  • Regular field visit at project areas, tracking the MEs progress in adoption of the RECP practices and reporting.
  • Maintain linkages with different government departments (i.e. DAE, DoE), academicians, value-chain actors (hatchery owners, inputs sellers, market actors, transporter etc.), private sector companies, etc.
  • Any other tasks, duties, or specific tasks assigned by the Project Manager and management of the WAVE Foundation.

Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor/Honors
  • Should have BSc in Agriculture from a UGC-approved university.
  • Candidate having Master’s degree in any subject of Agriculture especially Horticulture will be given preference.

Experience

  • At least 4 years
  • The applicants should have experience in the following business area(s): NGO

Additional Requirements: Age at most 40 years

Working Experience and Other Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of working experience in relevant sector (only full-time work experience after graduation will be considered).
  • Relevant working experience with PKSF or any project funded by multi-lateral development partners would be preferred.
  • Working experience in enterprise development related projects will be given preference.
  • Knowledge on resource efficiency, HACCP, product diversification, certification, environment, climate change and vulnerability will be an added advantage
  • Practical knowledge and experiences in training modules, leaflets, case stories, etc. development.
  • Ability to work in a team and with good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good computer knowledge (MS office and relevant applications).
  • Fluency in English and Bengali languages is essential.Must have a valid motorcycle driving license.
