Dhaka international mobile film festival marks 12th anniversary

The Dhaka International Mobile Film Festival (DIMFF) celebrated its 12th anniversary with a vibrant reunion gala on 14 June in Dhanmondi, bringing together organisers, alumni, and well-wishers to reflect on the journey of mobile filmmaking in Bangladesh.
The gathering featured opening remarks, personal reflections, and a celebration of DIMFF’s evolution as a pioneering platform for mobile-based storytelling.
Chief Adviser Professor Sumon Rahman remarked, “It’s a celebration—not just of films, but of the friendships and journeys we’ve shared. Seeing familiar faces and reliving cherished memories reminds us why this community matters.”
DIMFF Adviser Syeda Sadia Mehjabin expressed her gratitude to those who have contributed over the years. “I want to thank the entire team—from the 2015 DIMFF pioneers to everyone who has carried the vision forward. But we will never forget our roots. Without those who laid the foundation, we are incomplete.”
Festival Director of DIMFF21, Rafi Ahmed, said, “The reunion of the Dhaka International Mobile Film Festival is more than a gathering—it’s a celebration of creativity and community. It should be held every two or three years to keep the spirit alive and evolving with each new generation of storytellers.”
Attendees reminisced about earlier editions of the festival, sharing stories in a relaxed and nostalgic atmosphere. The evening concluded on a playful note with interactive games such as Confessions, Dumb Charades, and the ever-popular Roast & Toast session, sparking laughter and strengthening bonds within the community.
The event ended leaving participants inspired and reaffirming DIMFF’s enduring commitment to empowering storytellers through the accessible medium of mobile filmmaking.
