BUTEX students protest brutal killing, rise in extortion and political violence

Students of the Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) staged a protest last night against the surge in killings, extortion, and political violence.
The demonstration began at 10:30 pm from BUTEX’s GMAG Osmani Hall gate, following the brutal daylight murder near Mitford Hospital in Old Dhaka on Thursday, where a man was beaten to death—allegedly over control of the scrap metal trade linked to political conflict.Students chanted, “Oporadhi jey hok, bichar chai!” and “Shontrash-er biruddhe amra ekshathe!”, calling for justice and an end to impunity for politically affiliated criminals. Placards read, “No more dancing on corpses” and “No more politics of murder”.
They demanded immediate legal action against all involved, regardless of political identity, stating, “This barbarity, this hatred, this politics – we refuse to endure it any longer.”
The protest remained peaceful but sent a strong message: the youth will not stay silent against violence.
