Applications for the University of Sydney AGRTP Scholarship for the 2026 intake are now open. The University of Sydney is a top-class, world-renowned institution. This Australian Government Research Training Program Scholarship is available to international and Australian students to pursue a Higher Degree by Research (HDR), which includes Master’s and PhD by Research. The scholarship is fully funded by the Australian Government, covering all expenses. Importantly, a separate application for the scholarship is not required.

Stipend value: approximately AUD 40,109 per annum (2025 rate)

Eligibility criteria

Must be an international student (Bangladeshi citizens eligible).

Must hold an offer for a research Master’s or PhD and have secured supervisor agreement.

Demonstrated outstanding academic and research background, with a suitable research proposal.

Must meet English proficiency requirements (if the prior degree was not in English).

Scholarship benefits

The scholarship provides an annual stipend of AUD 40,109 to support living expenses, along with a full tuition fee waiver. It includes Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the student, and for dependents if applicable. A relocation allowance is offered to assist with travel to and from Sydney, and there is also a thesis allowance and financial assistance available for research-related expenses.

Application timeline

Admission deadlines (HDR application) for 2026 entry:

Research Period 1 & 2 (start early 2026): 13 September 2025

Research Period 3 & 4 (mid–late 2026): 17 December 2025

These admission deadlines also act as the closing dates for AGRTP scholarship consideration.

Scholarship decisions are released approximately:2 to 3 months after application (late-November for September deadline; March for December deadline) Based on historical timelines and university practice.

Application procedure

Secure a supervisor and receive an offer for a research programme.

Develop a research proposal in collaboration with the supervisor.

Submit an HDR application and indicate RTP scholarship interest via the University portal by the admission deadline.

Upon successful admission, no separate AGRTP form is required. Scholarships are awarded automatically to eligible candidates.

Provide documentation including transcripts, supervisor confirmation, proof of identity, English proficiency, CV, and referee reports.
