The Environmental Club of Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) organised a seminar on “CO₂ Capturing from Atmosphere using Smart Textile Composite” on 20 August, offering students and faculty an exclusive glimpse into emerging solutions for climate change.

Dr Gaffar Hossain, a BUTEX alumnus from the 22nd batch and current Head of Institute at V-Trion GmbH in Lustenau, Austria, delivered the keynote address. He framed his research within the broader context of global climate goals, highlighting the International Energy Agency’s “Net Zero by 2050” roadmap and underscoring the significance of Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology in achieving these targets.

The technical session explored the scientific foundations of carbon capture, with Dr Hossain comparing V-Trion’s textile-based innovations with conventional methods. He explained DAC operational principles and demonstrated the CO₂ absorption testing apparatus used in their research programme.

Students across undergraduate batches and MSc programmes participated enthusiastically, reflecting the rising importance of sustainability and environmental responsibility within the textile sector.

This industry-academia initiative acted as a vital platform for students to connect with cutting-edge global research, bridging academic theory with next-generation industrial applications in climate-smart textiles.
