The 2-day long GIS (Geographic Information System) training session, jointly organised by the SAU Computer Club and the Department of Agricultural Engineering, was successfully completed from 22 to 23 August 2025, with the participation of more than 90 trainees. The closing ceremony was held on 23 August at the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) campus.

During the training, participants engaged in fundamental map creating, data presentation, case studies, evaluations, quizzes, and assignments. The sessions were conducted by GIS specialist and part-time faculty member of the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering, Sabyasachi Niloy.

The Honourable Vice-Chancellor of SAU, Professor Dr. Mohammad Abdul Latif, graced the event as the Chief Guest. Among the distinguished guests were Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Belal Hossain, Treasurer Professor Md. Abul Bashar, Proctor Dr. Md. Arfan Ali, Director of Student Counseling Professor Dr. Md. Ashabul Haque, and Chairman of the Department of Agricultural Engineering, Assistant Professor Dr. Md. Wadud Ahmed.

From the club’s moderator panel, Lecturer Md. Masudul Hasan, from the Department of Agricultural Finance and Management and Lecturer Md. Nazmus Sakib, from the Department of Fisheries Biology and Genetics were present. The course was coordinated by Lecturer Md. Mostafizur Rahman, from the Department of Agricultural Engineering.

In his address, the Chief Guest, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Abdul Latif, emphasised, “The world’s resources are limited. It is not possible to feed seven billion people with such scarcity. The only solution is the increased use of technology. GIS is one such technology that allows research and planning through geological mapping and proper area selection.”

At the event, trainees shared their experiences, while the General Secretary of SAU Computer Club, Prithiviraj Sarker, club moderators, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Proctor, and Director of Student Counseling also delivered speeches. The programme was also attended by the President of SAU Computer Club, Abdullah Al Ahsan Alvee, along with other executive members of the Club.

Later, the Vice-Chancellor awarded certificates and gifts to two trainees who secured first and second place in the GIS assignment segment.
