The Rajshahi University (RU) authorities have decided to suspend all classes, examinations, and office activities on 24 and 25 September due to the upcoming Rucsu, hall union, and senate student representative elections.

The announcement was made in an official notice issued by the university’s registrar’s office today (15 September).

Prof Iftikharul Alam Masud, acting registrar of RU, said, “The academic buildings will be used as polling stations. The temporary closure of classes, exams, and offices is primarily aimed at ensuring campus security and facilitating a smooth and orderly voting process.”

Essential services, including water, electricity, medical facilities, security, and telephone operations, will remain operational during this period, said the notice.

The Rucsu election marks a historic return to student representation at Rajshahi University after a 35-year hiatus. Polling will be held in the university’s academic buildings from 9am to 4pm on 25 September.

Preparations for the long-awaited election are underway in full swing, creating a festive and enthusiastic atmosphere across the campus.
