Rucsu polls: Shibir wins majority including VP and AGS posts, Anti-Dominance Unity clinches GS post

The Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed “Combined Students’ Alliance” has won the vice president (VP) and assistant general secretary (AGS) posts, while the “Anti-Dominance Unity” panel secured victory in the general secretary (GS) position in the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (Rucsu) polls.
After the vote counting ended, Chief Election Commissioner Professor F Nazrul Islam officially announced the results from the Kazi Nazrul Islam Auditorium around 8:30am.

Mostakur Rahman Zahid, the VP candidate from the Shibir-backed panel has won by a landslide, receiving 12,684 votes, defeating his nearest rival Sheikh Nur Uddin Abir from the Chhatra Dal-backed “United New Generation” panel, who received 3,397 votes.
In the GS race, Salahuddin Ammar from the “Anti-Dominance Unity” panel emerged victorious with 11,118 votes, while his closest competitor, Fahim Reza from the Shibir-backed panel, got 5,727 votes.
The AGS post was also claimed by the Shibir-backed panel’s SM Salman Sabbir, who received 6,971 votes, defeating Jahin Biswas Esha of the Chhatra Dal-backed panel, who secured 5,951 votes.
Out of the 23 posts in the Rucsu, the Shibir-backed panel has won all positions except three — general secretary (GS), sports secretary, and science and technology secretary.
Salahuddin Ammar won the GS post, the Sports Secretary position went to a Chhatra Dal candidate, and the Science and Technology Secretary post was won by an independent candidate.
And Shibir won in all the hall unions.
Meanwhile, out of the five posts in the Senate, three were won by candidates from the Shibir-backed panel, while the remaining two went to candidates from the Anti-Dominance Unity panel.
Voting in the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (Rucsu) election was held yesterday (16 October), amid a festive atmosphere and with no major unpleasant incidents reported.
