BRAC University observes 6th death anniversary of Sir Fazle Hasan Abed
BRAC University organised a commemorative programme titled “Young Abed: crossroads of courage and conviction” at the university auditorium on Wednesday, 18 December, marking the sixth death anniversary of its founder Sir Fazle Hasan Abed.
The programme reflected on Sir Fazle Hasan Abed’s formative years, highlighting the dilemmas, discoveries and moments of uncertainty that shaped his journey as a global changemaker.
As part of the event, a panel discussion titled “Lessons for contemporary times” was held, where speakers discussed how Sir Fazle Hasan Abed’s values, thinking and leadership legacy influenced their personal and professional lives. The discussion underscored his vision of inclusive development, courage in decision-making and commitment to social justice, which continue to inspire people across sectors.
Panelist Afsan Chowdhury spoke on Sir Fazle Hasan Abed’s long-term vision and institution-building approach, noting its transformative impact in Bangladesh and beyond. Other speakers reflected on how his principles of empathy, innovation and ethical leadership guided their own paths.
The panel featured Afsan Chowdhury, Paromita Hossain, Rana Tabassum and Md Tawhid Anwar, and was moderated by Mehzabin Kabir.
Organisers said the programme provided a space for reflection and dialogue, reaffirming the continued relevance of Sir Fazle Hasan Abed’s legacy in addressing contemporary global challenges.
