UIU holds its 8th convocation ceremony
The 8th Convocation of United International University (UIU) was held on 27 December 2025 at the university’s campus in United City on Madani Avenue in Dhaka.
Prof Dr Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman, Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), presided over the ceremony on behalf of the President and Chancellor of UIU. Prof Dr Mohammad Anwar Hossen, Member of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, attended as the Convocation Special Guest.
The Convocation Speaker was Prof Dr M Taher A Saif, Grainger Distinguished Chair in Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, USA. The ceremony was also addressed by Hasan Mahmood Raja, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of UIU, and Prof Dr Md Abul Kashem Mia, Vice-Chancellor of UIU.
In his address, Prof Dr Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman said the country must focus on making innovation more advanced and sustainable through scalable solutions. He urged students to move beyond labour-intensive approaches and embrace knowledge-intensive education. He also called on the new graduates to play a key role in social change, economic development, and modernisation, while establishing themselves as global citizens.
A total of 1,736 students from different disciplines were awarded undergraduate and graduate degrees at the convocation. Four meritorious students received gold medals for their outstanding academic performance.
As the Special Guest, Prof Dr Mohammad Anwar Hossen said the knowledge and skills acquired at the university were not solely for personal advancement, but also for the collective development of society.
Convocation Speaker Prof Dr M Taher A Saif congratulated the graduates and advised them to work sincerely for human welfare. Hasan Mahmood Raja said UIU graduates would bring pride to their families and the wider community through their professional achievements.
In his speech, Prof Dr Md Abul Kashem Mia called on the graduates to be good human beings and dedicate themselves to the welfare of society and humanity.
Vice-chancellors of different universities, members of the UIU Board of Trustees, deans, heads of departments, teachers, administrative officials, academicians, and journalists attended the convocation.
