The Department of International Relations of Jahangirnagar University successfully organised IR-JU Sports Week 2026 from 11 to 15 January, facilitated by the International Relations Students’ Council. The week-long programme aimed to promote unity, sportsmanship and student engagement within the department.

The event featured both indoor and outdoor competitions. Indoor games included table tennis, carrom, ludo, chess and quiz contests, while the outdoor segment comprised short-pitch cricket, ensuring participation from students of all academic batches. Eight teams competed in the cricket tournament, with mandatory inclusion of at least one female player in each team—an initiative that received widespread appreciation.

In the cricket segment, Team Hawkings emerged as champions, while Sydney Knight finished as runners-up following a series of competitive matches. At the conclusion of the Sports Week, Batch 53 secured nine trophies, while Batch 54 won five trophies. The performance of the junior batch drew particular attention and was celebrated across the department.

Md Sazzad Hossen, Lecturer at the Department of International Relations, said the Sports Week went beyond competition, serving as a platform for building camaraderie and strengthening bonds among students. He noted that such initiatives help bridge gaps between seniors and juniors while fostering closer interaction between students and faculty members.

Students also shared positive feedback on the programme. Shyamontee, a second-year student, said the Sports Week highlighted student talent while promoting physical and mental wellbeing alongside academic pursuits. Badhon, a first-year student, said the event helped build meaningful connections with senior students and created a welcoming environment for new entrants.

Sports Secretary Shahnewaj Fuad said the department plans to organise more sporting activities in the future. He added that the experience gained from IR-JU Sports Week 2026 would be valuable in preparing students for upcoming inter-departmental competitions.

Overall, IR-JU Sports Week 2026 concluded as a successful departmental initiative, strengthening community spirit and student participation within the Department of International Relations.
