Helio presents Casespecs 3.0, co-sponsored by Splash, an inter-university business case competition organised by Spectrum, the professional skill development club of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet), concluded on Friday, 30 January, at the KUET auditorium.
The event challenged conventional norms within the business competition circuit by allowing individual participation, breaking the long-held belief that business case competitions must be team-based.
Team “One Man Army” from Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), represented solely by T. M. Waliullah Turjo, emerged as champion. Team “It Was Expected” from RU-IBA, comprising Hadiuzzaman Nafiz, Nafiz Imtiaz Hemel, Md Jasem Uddin, and Abdur Rahman Rahim, secured the first runner-up position, while Team “Mejbani” from BUP, consisting of Farhan Ahmed, Waziha Islam Smyrna, Junayed Islam, and Hasan Reza, finished as second runner-up.
A total of 327 teams with 1,308 participants from 59 universities took part in the competition. The first round, titled Level 1: The Gateway, required teams to submit online presentations addressing a complex business case. Fifty teams advanced to Level 2: The Crossway Signal, where participants submitted an online video case (OVC) along with a presentation explaining their strategic thought process. Ultimately, eight teams qualified for the final round, Level 3: The Boss Battle, where they pitched their solutions before a panel of industry experts.
With a total prize pool of BDT 250,000, each of the eight finalist teams received BDT 10,000. The organisers introduced several innovations, including permitting one-member teams, providing a dummy product for second-round analysis, and introducing theme-based case competitions, marking a notable shift in Bangladesh’s business competition landscape.
The judging panel comprised Mohammad Abu Sayem, Head of Sales and Marketing at Edison Group; Rashid Anjum Rabby, Area Manager (South Cluster) at Unilever Bangladesh Ltd; and Arnab Rahman, Head of Customer Success at MyAlice. The event was graced by Prof. Dr B. M. Ikramul Haque, Director of Students’ Welfare at KUET, as chief guest. Spectrum’s advisor Dr Asheif Javed and co-moderator Aseif Shahriar were also present at the prize-giving ceremony.
The competition provided participants with opportunities for professional networking and practical application of academic knowledge, concluding one of Bangladesh’s flagship national-level business case competitions.
