Election day selfies possible again after EC lifts ban

The Election Commission (EC) has reversed its earlier decision to ban mobile phones at polling centres during the upcoming referendum and the 13th national parliamentary election scheduled for 12 February.

Reported by Channel 24, the reversal came this evening after the EC issued a directive prohibiting voters and election officials from carrying mobile phones within a 400-yard radius of polling centres, a move that drew criticism from citizens and political observers.

With the reversal, voters, including first-time participants from Generation Z, will now be allowed to carry mobile phones, enabling many young citizens to document and share their first-ever voting experience.

The initial ban had raised concerns that new voters would miss the chance to celebrate their civic milestone, often marked by selfies outside polling centres.
