Mohamed Salah has announced that he will leave Liverpool FC at the end of the season, bringing an end to a remarkable nine-year journey at Anfield.
The 33-year-old forward confirmed the decision through a video message, calling it the “first part” of his farewell. Despite signing a two-year contract extension in April 2025, Salah will depart on a free transfer after reaching an agreement with the club regarding his future.
This season has been challenging by his own high standards, with 10 goals in 34 appearances—potentially his lowest tally in a Liverpool shirt. Off the pitch, tensions were also evident, as Salah previously revealed a strained relationship with head coach Arne Slot.
Since joining from AS Roma in 2017, Salah has played a central role in Liverpool’s success, helping the club win multiple major trophies, including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and more. He leaves with 255 goals in 435 appearances, making him one of the greatest players in the club’s history.
In an emotional farewell message, Salah expressed deep gratitude to the club and its supporters, describing Liverpool as more than just a team—“a passion, a history, a spirit.” He reflected on the highs and lows of his time there, including personal and collective challenges, and thanked teammates and fans for their unwavering support.
Liverpool also paid tribute to Salah, calling his time at the club a “remarkable chapter,” with plans to properly celebrate his legacy later.
With the season still ongoing, Salah remains focused on finishing strongly. Liverpool are currently competing in the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League, with key fixtures ahead.
Teammate Andy Robertson praised Salah, saying he deserves a farewell worthy of “the greatest” in Liverpool history.
