The Department of Media Studies and Journalism at University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh organised its Spring 2026 Curriculum Integration Exhibition, titled “The Pitfalls of National Consciousness,” as a two-day interdisciplinary showcase at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on 17 and 18 April.

Designed as more than a conventional academic exhibition, the event brought together visual art, performance, research, and storytelling to critically examine how national identity is constructed and understood. Through immersive installations and student-led projects, the exhibition transformed abstract academic inquiry into an accessible public experience.

Visitors were greeted with bold artistic expressions and layered narratives that explored questions of identity, representation, and belonging. Each installation encouraged audiences to reflect on how national consciousness is shaped, negotiated, and at times misinterpreted within social and cultural contexts.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Ulab Vice-Chancellor Professor Shamsad Mortuza and Dr Sumon Rahman, Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Head of the Department of Media Studies and Journalism. In their remarks, they highlighted the importance of critical media education and interdisciplinary learning in developing socially aware and analytically engaged graduates.

By presenting student work in a national cultural venue, the initiative underscored the role of young media practitioners in shaping contemporary discourse. It also reflected Ulab’s broader commitment to experiential learning, where academic theory is integrated with creative practice.

The exhibition ultimately positioned the classroom beyond its traditional boundaries, inviting the public to engage with complex ideas through art, research, and dialogue.
